T-Mobile to begin supporting RCS Universal Profile in Q2 2018

Rich Communication Services (RCS) help to make messaging better with features like read receipts and support for more than 160 characters. T-Mobile has been offering RCS since 2015, and today it announced that it's going to roll out an upgraded version later this year.

T-Mobile will begin supporting RCS Universal Profile in Q2 2018. At that time, T-Mo will begin sending out software updates to its devices.

With Universal Profile, users get all of the benefits of RCS with upgrades like the ability to transfer files up to 100MB. The current iteration of RCS used by T-Mobile only supports file transfers up to 10MB.

Sprint currently supports the RCS Universal Profile, and so when T-Mobile rolls out the feature itself, then customers on T-Mobile and Sprint should be able to use these RCS features when texting with one another. There's no word on when or if AT&T and Verizon will begin supporting RCS Universal Profile.
