Samsung Galaxy S8 Active officially coming to Sprint and T-Mobile

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active review

For the first time, a Samsung Galaxy S Active smartphone will be available from a U.S. carrier not named AT&T.

The Galaxy S8 Active is coming to both Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S. Sprint hasn't revealed its launch date or price for the phone, but T-Mobile will begin selling it online on November 17th and in stores on November 22nd. Pricing will be set at $100 down and $30 per month for 24 months ($820 total) on EIP or $100 down and $29 per month on an 18-month JUMP! On Demand lease.

The version of the Galaxy S8 Active that's launching on Sprint and T-Mobile is largely the same as the one that's been available from AT&T for months now. It's got a flat 5.8-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, and 4GB of RAM. There's 64GB of built-in storage as well as a microSD card slot for adding more storage, and a 4,000mAh battery.

Of course, one of the highlight features of the Galaxy S8 Active is its toughened body. It's got a metal frame with bumpers to help it withstand drops, and it also meets the MIL-STD-810G military standard to survive extreme temperatures, low pressure, high altitude, and more. The phone is water and dust resistant, too, and it's got a textured back to give you added grip.

One other detail worth mentioning involves the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S8 Active. This device is the second phone to support T-Mobile's 600MHz LTE network, which offers improved coverage. T-Mo's 600MHz service is only live in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Scarborough, Maine right now, but T-Mobile has pledged to expand coverage to the following areas by the end of 2017:

  • Wyoming
  • Northeast and Southwest Oregon
  • West Texas
  • Southwest Kansas
  • The Oklahoma panhandle
  • Western North Dakota
  • Additional areas of Maine
  • Coastal North Carolina
  • Central Pennsylvania
  • Central Virginia
  • Eastern Washington
