Hands-on review: MWC 2015: LG Magna

Hands-on review: MWC 2015: LG Magna

This is a flash hands on review to give you the chance to see what the phone is all about as soon as possible. Stay tuned as we'll be expanding and upgrading this review shortly with more info.

The LG Magna is a mid-range phone that skimps a little on the high end materials in a bid to lower the cost.

It does have a very large 2540mAh battery though, and combined with the 720p screen (meaning fewer pixels to push) should offer a very long battery life indeed.

The smartphone also makes use of in-cell technology, which allows the screen to look sharper and feel more responsive.

In terms of design, the LG Magna is quite basic, but with a pleasant curve on the rear to fit into the hand well.

It feels light – too light to be considered premium – but the ridged back is nice to hold and despite being quite square on the front is still an attractive phone.

The back is removable, so hot swapping the battery should be possible, and while the 720p resolution might sound low to some (offering a quite grainy 294ppi) I found myself swiping through it quite happily.

Early verdict

The LG Magna is the top dog of four new smartphones from LG, and it's a little confusing to know who this is aimed at.

But the higher-end technologies used, combined with a fairly robust build, should see this phone pleasing a few if it doesn't cost too much on the shelf.
