Has a carrier promo ever convinced you to switch?

Sprint

Using a wireless carrier feels a lot like just settling for what works best in your area. Depending on your situation, traveling might not even play a role in the decision. If one carrier works best compared to the others, then that's the one you (probably) use. Switching might not even be a reasonable train of thought on most days of the week.

I know that when I switched carriers a few years ago, it was not a short process to go through. The switch itself didn't take much time at all, thankfully. But actually deciding to do it was the long part. I'd be getting better coverage where I lived, and there were other positives, too, but it still wasn't an easy decision.

"I don't want to go through the hassle," seems to be the general consensus from those who I've spoken to about switching carriers. I can definitely understand that sentiment. On the other side of the coin, I know someone who has tried three different carriers in the last year, simply because he's been looking for the best possible experience at home and while he's traveling.

I'm not even entirely sure he's made a final decision on the matter.

I wanted to ask all of you about switching carriers, and whether or not it's something you've done recently -- or ever, for that matter. And, if so, why'd you decide to do it and how was the experience overall? But, more than that, I want to ask you about promotions.

Wireless carriers want you on their network. They want you under their umbrella even more if you happen to be using a different carrier's services. So that's where the switching promotions show up. If you leave one carrier for another, the one you're moving to will typically offer you something for your troubles. We continue to see a lot of options for paying off old devices, for instance.

Sprint, though, came out swinging for the fences yesterday by announcing a new promotion that would see people who switch to the Now Network getting a year's worth of free service. There are plenty of hoops to jump through to be eligible, but it's still a year's worth of free service just for switching.

That's pretty incredible.

There have been plenty of noteworthy promos over the years, and that's what I'm most curious about. Have any of those deals ever convinced you to switch carriers, and have you actually taken advantage of them when given the opportunity? Or is it still not worth the hassle? Let me know!
