Sprint confirms it's working with Samsung on a 5G device

So far this week, Verizon and AT&T have announced plans to launch a 5G smartphone from Samsung in the first half of 2019. Now, not wanting to be left out, Sprint has revealed that it's got similar plans.

Sprint has confirmed that it's working with Samsung to launch a 5G device next year. "We're one of Samsung's biggest customers. You better believe we're working with them as well," said Ryan Sullivan, Sprint's VP of product engineering and development, to PCMag.

Neither Verizon, AT&T, nor Sprint have said much what this mystery 5G Samsung smartphone might be, but it's looking likely that it'll be a 5G-enabled version of the Samsung Galaxy S10. We typically see Samsung's Galaxy S flagships launch across all major U.S. carriers, and we've heard rumors that Samsung is working on a special 5G model of the Galaxy S10. Considering all of that and the fact that Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint have all said that they're working with Samsung on a 5G phone, a 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 seems to be the most probably identity of those carriers' upcoming device.

Sprint has said that it's planning to launch its 5G coverage in nine cities in the first half of 2019. Those cities are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington D.C. The carrier has also confirmed that it's working with HTC on a 5G mobile smart hub that'll arrive in the first half of 2019, as well as a 5G smartphone from LG that'll launch in the first half of 2019.
