Apple acquiring Texture digital magazine service

Apple Texture acquisition

Apple doesn't always make an announcement when it acquires a company, preferring instead to keep things quiet. That's not the case with its latest acquisition, though.

Apple has acquired Texture, a digital magazine service. Texture gives you unlimited access to more than 200 magazines for $9.99 per month, including titles like ESPN, Men's Health, The New Yorker, Time, and Bon Appétit.

The Texture app offers features like offline reading so that you can download issues and view them when you're without an internet connection as well as back issues.

Here's what Eddy Cue, Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services, had to say about the deal:

“We’re excited Texture will join Apple, along with an impressive catalog of magazines from many of the world’s leading publishers. We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users.”

No details on Apple's plans for Texture were announced, so it's unclear exactly what Apple will do with the company. There are Texture apps available on Android and Amazon's Fire platform as well as iOS, though, so hopefully Apple will keep the apps going for the Texture subscribers on those platforms.
