LG exec reportedly orders G7 development to start over

There's been some major smartphone news out of LG recently, with the company deciding to rebrand its G series of flagships and saying that it plans to buck the trend of yearly smartphone refreshes. Now some more big news has come out regarding the upcoming LG G7 (or whatever it'll be called).

LG CEO and vice chairman Jo Seong-jin has ordered a re-do of the LG G7, according to a report from The Investor. It's said that LG's smartphone team was recently told to halt its work on the G7 and to restart its development from scratch.

"Right after the vice chairman made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, a direct order was sent down to the working-level officials to start over," a source said. "The internal speculation is that the company hasn’t been able to find a strong selling point for the G7 smartphone."

It's said that LG may launch this new G7 in April. That seems awfully soon for a smartphone on which development is starting over, though, so it's possible that LG is only refreshing parts of its next flagship or something like that. Now that this news has come out, it'll be even more interesting to see what LG has cooked up for its next flagship.

What do you want to see from LG's next major Android smartphone?
