Facebook to simplify Messenger in 2018

Facebook Messenger Android app

Facebook Messenger may be one of the biggest messaging apps around, but that doesn't mean that it can't be improved, and that's precisely what Facebook plan to do in 2018.

Facebook today laid out six ways that it plans to improve Messenger this year. For example, Facebook says that'll "invest in massively simplifying and streamlining" its chat app after years of building in new features made Messenger too cluttered.

Also coming to Messenger this year are some improvements to existing features like real time communications, group chats, and visual messaging like videos and GIFs. Facebook hasn't offered up any concrete details on what it's got planned, though.

Two other changes for Messenger in 2018 will be focused on businesses. Specifically, Facebook says it plans to improve Messenger to make the app better for customer care and also to help businesses big and small to begin getting into messaging.

Messaging is a big deal in mobile right now, with platforms like iMessage, Messenger, and WhatsApp helping people connecting with other people and businesses quickly. Facebook's Messenger is used by many because it's available on multiple platforms, doesn't require a phone number, and offers features like real-time chat and video calls, but it's definitely become cluttered over the past year or two. It's good to hear that Facebook plans on simplifying Messenger in 2018, but we'll have to wait and see exactly how much streamlining Facebook does.
