Verizon strikes new deal with NFL, will allow customers on other carriers to stream NFL games

In recent years, Verizon has been the only carrier that offered NFL streaming on mobile devices because of a deal that it had with the NFL. Today Verizon announced that it's struck a new deal with the NFL, but things are a bit different this time around.

Verizon and the NFL have reached a new multi-year partnership that'll offer streaming NFL games to customers on any carrier. Starting January 2018, the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl will be streamed on Yahoo and Yahoo Sports as well as go90 and the NFL mobile app.

To start watching the action in January, download the Yahoo Sports app for Android and iOS.

This deal will offer streams of in-market and national games, including national pre-season and regular season games. Also available will be NFL highlights, coverage of the NFL throughout the week, and "a robust set of jointly-developed original content."

The NFL is huge in the U.S., and so it was always kind of a bummer that only customers on Verizon could stream NFL games on their mobile devices. That's why this deal is big news, because now anyone can stream NFL games on the go. The deal is taking effect at a good time, too, with the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl right around the corner.
