Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 features a 5.99-inch display with super slim bezels

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 official

Smartphones with super slim bezels are all the rage right now, with companies like Samsung, LG, Essential, Xiaomi, and perhaps even Apple cooking up phones with nearly bezel-free screens. Now Xiaomi is back with another such device.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is now official. It’s got a 5.99-inch 2160x1080 display, which is a bit smaller than the original Mi Mix’s 6.4-inch screen. Like many other phones with super slim bezels, the Mi Mix 2’s screen also features a tall 18:9 aspect ratio.

Around back the Mi Mix 2 is packing a 12-megapixel camera with a Sony IMX386 sensor, 4-axis optical image stabilization, and a flash. There’s a fingerprint reader below the display, and around on the front of the phone lives a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Xiaomi is also touting the Mi Mix 2’s audio capabilities. Included is a 50mW speaker with a sound guiding tube near the top of the phone, as well as cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology which Xiaomi says will help sound to resonate through the Mi Mix 2’s metal frame and be delivered through the display.

Other features of the Mi Mix 2 include a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64/128/256GB of internal storage, USB-C charging, and a 3400mAh battery. On the software side, it’s running Android Nougat below Xiaomi’s custom MIUI user interface. Wireless connectivity includes support for LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, and 41.

The standard Mi Mix 2 includes a ceramic back and and aluminum alloy frame. It’ll be available for 3,299 yuan ($506 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model, 3,599 yuan ($552 USD) for the 6GB/128GB model, and 3,999 yuan ($613 USD) for the 6GB/256GB model.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 unibody ceramic special edition

Xiaomi also plans to offer a special edition Mi Mix 2 with a unibody ceramic design, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. That model will sell for 4,699 yuan ($720 USD).

The Mi Mix 2 looks like a solid improvement over Xiaomi’s original Mi Mix. The screen is smaller, which should help make the Mi Mix 2 easier to handle, and the specs have been upgraded to include more RAM and a newer Qualcomm processor. There doesn’t appear to be any waterproofing here, which is kind of a bummer, but the Mi Mix 2 still looks like a phone worth considering if you want to get in on the trend of smartphones with super slim bezels.
