Google’s Allo messaging service gained a major new feature today.
Allo is now available on the web, letting you chat in your browser window much like you would on your smartphone. To get started, simply point Google Chrome (the only supported browser) to the Allo for web page, open Allo on your phone, open the slide-out menu and tap “Allo for web”, then scan the QR code that’s on your computer screen with your phone.
Google says that Allo on the web only supports Android phones right now, but that iOS support is “coming soon.”
The web version of Allo supports many of the same features as its Android counterpart, like emoji and Google Assistant. There are a handful of features that are only available in the Allo mobile app, though, like adding or removing members from an existing group and connecting, switching, or removing Google accounts.
Google Allo doesn’t seem to have taken the world by storm since its launch one year ago, but the launch of Allo on the web could get some more people to give it a try. Having the ability to use the same messaging app on your computer and your phone is pretty handy, letting you chat while you’re working on your computer and then switch to your phone when you’re done and continue right where you left off.
